Can you inherit both passive and active skills in Emberville?
Can you change your class in Emberville?
Is there a limit on inherited skills?
The short answer
Emberville’s classes are not walls — they are skill pools. Official material confirms that a combat class can inherit passive and active skills from other classes you have learnt. Combined with free class switching, this is the system the whole build-crafting layer of the game hangs on.
What is confirmed
- Inheritance covers both skill types. Passives (always-on traits) and actives (triggered abilities) can cross over from your other learnt classes.
- You can switch classes at any time. The official store page says the combat class is changeable whenever you like — experimenting is cheap.
- Skills and weapons also improve through play. Official material lists leveling, items, and rescued villagers as sources of skill and weapon upgrades.
Why this system matters for builds
Because skills travel across classes, a “build” in Emberville is more than one class’s kit:
- Level a class to unlock its skills.
- Switch to another class and inherit the pieces that fit.
- Layer passives and actives into a hybrid that no single class offers.
This is exactly the design space the site’s Build Planner is built for — and exactly why the planner only uses verified data. The rules we still do not have are the ones that matter most for real builds:
| Unknown | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| How many skill slots a class has | Caps hybrid depth |
| Unlock requirements per skill | Levels or quests gate inheritance |
| Any cross-class restrictions | Defines what combos are legal |
| Respec or re-learn costs | How cheap experimentation really is |
When real rules arrive
These specifics should surface during the Next Fest demo (October 19–26) and may change through Early Access. From October 19 onward this page will carry the tested rules — firsthand, with the build version noted — instead of the honest “unknown” rows above.
